When we think of layaway we usually think of toys, clothes, and furniture. Right? Who would ever think about putting airline tickets on layaway. After all, isn't "Layaway" defined as "a system of paying a deposit to secure an item for later purchase"? Yes, that is the formal definition (Google it, I did!). So how in the sam hill does this work with airline tickets? I recently discovered a Black-owned startup company called Airfordable (www.airfordable.com) that is bringing layaway and the airline industry together! This company started by Ama Marfo and Craig Henry was birthed out of Ama's inability to afford trips home to Ghana during breaks while attending college in the United States. So like many other students, she was stuck in the dorm on holiday's missing her family. After college she teamed up with Craig Henry who was also researching a similar idea and boom, Airfordable was born. So how does this work you wonder? The process is pretty straight forward. You find the flight you want through your favorite booking engine, send them a screenshot of the flight you want, they secure it, you select a payment plan, put down your deposit, and make payments until your flight is paid for. They do charge a one-time service fee of 10-20% but that's a small price to pay to secure a flight you otherwise wouldn't be able to afford. Check out my Facebook Live video below where I talk about this freekin awesome idea and definitely visit their website at www.airfordable.com and sign up for an account and try it for yourself (disregard my poor spelling of the name in the video and refer to the links within the blog post. Totally screwed it up. Guess I'm not perfect after all, lol). Be sure to leave me a comment, share and connect with me on Facebook by clicking on the logo on the right. Happy Travels and I'll talk to you soon!

"I can't afford to travel" are the worst words that have ever hit my ear. Unfortunately, I hear them over and over again from people that LOVE to travel! How do I know they love to travel? Because they are always talking about travel, daydreaming about travel, and commenting on just about everything I post on social media about travel. If that's not love I don't know what is.
Trust me, I can totally identify with this love affair they have with travel because I share it too. Travel is like an addiction and when you can't do it or haven't done it in a looong, looong, looong, looong time (you catch my drift), you definitely have withdrawal symptoms like shaking, sweating, and hating on other travelers (lol). However, there is good news!! You don't have to keep depriving yourself of those much needed vacations to all those places you've been dreaming about and spending countless hours researching online between the hours of 9 to 5 when you should be working (don't worry, your secrets safe with me). Follow these simple steps and you will be on your way sooner than you think: 1. Plan If you know your birthday or some other special occasion is in November, don't wait until October to start planning a getaway. Unless you're independently wealthy, and the average traveler isn't, dropping a couple thousand dollars on a trip to some fabulous island at a 5 star resort in the Caribbean at the last minute probably isn't gonna work for you. 2. Book Early!!!!! You've heard the saying "the early bird catches the worm". This is definitely the case when it comes to travel. Booking at least 6-8 months in advance can save you a lot of money and give you the time you need to pay off your fabulous vacation. 3. Work with a Travel Agent Yes, I said it! But not just because I happen to be a travel agent but because we (us Travel Agents) can help you find a great deal and we can put together a payment plan that fits your budget. I won't give you all of the other fantastic reasons you should work with a travel agent. I'll save that for a future post that I know you can't wait to read (wink-wink). So PLAN, BOOK EARLY and WORK WITH A TRAVEL AGENT (click here) for my guide to choosing a travel agent)! Follow these steps and you too can travel the world and create memories that will last a lifetime! 0 Comments |
